Practice

Alright. Here we go.

Writing a blog is something I’ve been wanting to do, but for one reason or another, just haven’t been able to bring myself to start. I’m not sure why. It could be that I don’t believe my thoughts are worth writing down, or the embarrassment of doing something that’s not expected to make money during an age of relentless hustle-monetization.

But then I realized, that’s not what this is about. It’s about the act of writing. It’s about practice.

As a copywriter, I’m expected to be able to write with ease and fluidity. Writing

However, it can be just as hard to write a one-line CTA today as it was when I first started over five years ago. Maybe even harder.

I think as a professional writer we can fall into the trap of writing for others without thinking about writing for ourselves. Which, in turn, can damage our writing by creating this cycle of conformity.

Using the same words over and over, relaying the same message, writing for the same audience in the same format. All of that makes it easy to just stick to a formula and only do what works.

And lately, it’s been getting harder for me to find what works. The words escape me. I’m losing the creative juice I once felt I had.

My hope for this blog is to provide myself an outlet to kind of write without editing. I’m just going to practice writing. Putting my thoughts on the page. Thinking about things other than my job and turning them into words.

So join me (I’m actually just speaking to myself), and let’s get writing!
